The Comanche Main Street
Central Business District is
comprised of the nine city
blocks
surrounding the Courthouse Square.
The Main Street District
encompasses
properties south from Duncan Street,
north from Oak Street, west of Pearl
Street, and east of Mary Street.
Comanche Main Street offers
building and business owners within
this District the incentives for
property rehabilitation, renovation,
or improvement.
The Friends of Historic Comanche organization incorporated in 2002 and is recognized as a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization dedicated to the promotion and encouragement of historic preservation, engaging in all activities necessary, useful, or expedient through measures to promote and preserve the history of the City and County of Comanche Texas.
The initial activity of the Friends organization was to assist the City of Comanche in the application for participation and recognition as a Texas Main Street city, and secure a portion of the necessary funding to implement the program. The successes of the Comanche Main Street program have lead to their consistent recognition as a “Nationally Accredited Main Street City” since 2002.”
The Friends organization provides continuous support of historic preservation through the gifts or acquisition of historical properties, and the restoration, maintenance and utilization of said properties to the benefit of the citizens of Comanche. Rehabilitation of the Comanche “Frisco” Depot is one such project that Friends has pursue aggressively and their efforts resulted in designation as “one of Texas’ Most Endangered Places” in 2007.
